Learn to Sew Knits

Welcome to Learn to Sew Knits, in this course you will gain the confidence to start sewing with stretchy knit fabrics and the tools to do it.
This workshop will take place over 3 weeks. We will start with the Acacia Underwear by Megan Nielsen to get you comfortable working with knits. Next we will make a Core T-Shirt by Closet Core Patterns. This is a classic crew neck T-shirt with a slightly boxy fit, the pattern comes in two lengths with two sleeve options.
In this course you will learn knit stitches, how to sew a knit band, and how to hem knits.
- Acacia Underwear (waist size range 24" - 48")
- Core T (bust size range 31" to 60")
Instructor: Robin Blodgett
Length: 3 classes - 2.5 hours (expect homework between classes) If a class is missed, a make up class will be offered Wednesday September 24th.
Cost: $280, ALL SUPPLIES ARE INCLUDED.
Level: Advanced Beginner and up
Skills you should have: You will be expected to know how to sew woven garments, determine your measurements, cut a pattern and read pattern instructions.
What you will need to bring:
- Your own sewing machine in working order
- Sewing Machine Needle - Universal or Knits
- A couple empty bobbins
- Sewing machine manual (if you do not have your manual most can be found online for free)
All materials needed for this class are included.
This Class will be held in person at The Soda Plant, 266 Pine Street - Studio 221. Enter to the left of Haymaker Bun.

Class Policies
Age: 14 and up
Class size: Minimum 3 students are required to sign up. If minimum is not met refunds will be provided.
Cancellations: Cancellations must be done 2 weeks in advance to receive a refund.
Make-up classes: One make up class will be provided per month. The next make up classes will be held Wednesday September 24th and October 22nd.
Sewing Machine Maintenance: While we are able to help with minor troubleshooting on your machine, our focus needs to remain on advancing the class. Please be sure your machine is in working order, to get the best possible experience out of this class.
If you do not have the prerequisite skills required you will need to schedule a private session prior to the class. PRIVATE LESSON RATE IS $65 PER HOUR.
All supplies are included in the cost of the class. Pickup up all supplies (Including fabric and patterns) 1 week before the first class.
