Double Gauze - Sewing Tips
Wash and dry your fabric before cutting.
Cotton gauze is meant to have a billowy surface, pressing the fabric before cutting risks flattening and spreading the fabric which could effect the sizing. Instead lay flat after drying to prevent wrinkles and cut as is.
Do not skip the staystitching! Staystitching stabilizes, curved, and bias cut fabric in place before sewing.
Pin often! Pining will help keep the layers from shifting as you sew. Also consider using a walking foot.
When pressing seams be mindful that the the fabric will flatten and spread. Try using a roller to press seams.
Cotton gauze will easily fray so be mindful not to over handle the fabric. Finish your seams with a serger, zig zag or try a french seam.
