Class description: Welcome to Intro to sewing with knits, in this course you will gain the confidence to start sewing with knits and the tools to do it.  We will discuss the different types of knit fabrics and how they differ from wovens.  You will learn how to gauge stretch percentage and how to use it.

This course will be working with the Core T-Shirt by Closet Core Patterns.  This is a classic crew neck T-shirt with a slightly boxy fit, the pattern comes in two lengths with two sleeve options.  In this course you will learn to sew a knit neckband, how to set sleeves and hem knits with a double needle.

Cost: $80 ($40/ class) Fabric sold separately.  Cancellations must be done 72 hours in advance.

Level: Beginner

Skills you should have: You will be expected to know how to sew wovens, determine your measurements, cut a pattern and read pattern instructions.  Recommend taking intro to Garment Sewing.

Age: 14 and up

What you will need to bring:

  • Your own sewing machine in working order and the manual (be sure to include the foot pedal, presser foot attachments, an empty bobbin and power cords)
  • Sewing pattern pieces cut out.  You can download the pattern directly from Closet Core Patterns here.

  • Fabric - pre-washed
  • All-Sew polyester thread
  • Sewing machine needles for stretch or jersey fabric and a double needle
